Development Education Centres are independent, community based organisations committed to;

  • enhancing understanding of local-global connections
  • raising the profile of global issues
  • encouraging positive local action for global change

The East of England currently has three Development Education Centres (based in Norwich, Cambridge and Colchester) which collectively provide the following support to teachers;

  • A wide range of specialist teaching materials (for sale or loan) on a variety of global themes.
  • Continuing professional development and Initial Teacher Education workshops to enhance the global dimension throughout the whole school environment.
  • Advice and guidance on planning global themed events within your school.
  • Curriculum development support and consultancy.
  • Classroom based workshops and activities for pupils with a focus upon one or more of the 8 key global dimension concepts.*
  • Opportunities to participate in projects which enhance learning and support school improvement
  • Information on local, national or international groups which could support learning activities.
  • A membership service which entitles schools to information about relevant local activities, new resources and discounts on services.

*Global Citizenship, Sustainable Development, Interdependence, Social Justice, Conflict Resolution, Values and Perceptions, Human Rights.

All Development Education Centres are independent and not-for-profit organisations. Fees for their services vary, but schools are often charged a subsidised rate and some services (such as special projects) may be free.
