Global Thinking Teachers' Networks |

"What we need is the time to develop the Global Dimension with other professionals. The Global Thinking Teachers' Network provides this" - Hertfordshire secondary school teacher.
Are you passionate about emphasising a global dimension in your teaching?
Would you like the opportunity to enhance your professional development in education for the global dimension and to share experiences with other teachers?
Global Thinking can pay for supply cover for up to half a day for up to eight teachers to attend Global Thinking Teacher Network meetings.
Why not form a Global Thinking Teachers' Network with colleagues at other schools to share teaching ideas, resources and curriculum planning activities? Or join an existing one!
"It has been great to meet up with teachers who share similar values about the importance of teaching children to be world citizens with responsibility and empathy towards others. Being a part of this support network has raised the profile of the global dimension in my school." - Essex Primary School Teacher
Frequently Asked Questions
The networks provide teachers with time and space to consider opportunities for enhancing a global dimension throughout their whole school environment. Each network normally focuses upon one key stage or curriculum area enabling teachers to share their experiences, ideas and plans with each other.
Teachers attending the network meetings decide upon the focus for the network depending upon their needs and priorities. For example the network may decide to share their experiences and plans for:
- Developing a scheme of work based on global dimension themes
- Organising a conference, school trip or a globally themed event
- Implementing the DfES national framework for Sustainable Schools or the International School Award
- Setting up and maintaining a global school partnership
Usually between 3 and 5 schools can form a network, but each school should be represented by two teachers so that at least one is able to attend each network meeting.
Network meetings take place once per term and last for half a day.
There is no cost to the school for participating in a network as each school which attends the meetings is provided with an allowance to contribute to supply cover and travel costs.
We do however, require participating schools to sign a partnership agreement to reinforce their commitment to participating in the network.
Each network nominates a teacher to act as the network coordinator. The network coordinator is responsible for organising the meetings, completing a brief termly report and liaising with the Global Thinking Coordinator.
The network coordinator can also claim additional time for organising, hosting and servicing the meetings.
The local Global Thinking Coordinator will help facilitate the meetings and identify an appropriate CPD provider.
Yes. If your school already belongs to a learning network which meets at least once per term then you are eligible to start up your own Global Thinking Teachers Network. However, to be eligible for the allowance to cover supply costs you must devote a half day meeting each term to fulfilling the purposes of the teachers networks (specified above).
Facilitation support for the meetings and identification of the CPD specialist will still be undertaken by your local Global Thinking Coordinator.
Yes. The teachers’ networks also have the opportunity to apply to our Global Thinking Curriculum Development Fund for grants of up to £3,000 to develop and share their own practice, produce and share lesson plans and resources or organise professional development days with a global education and sustainable development focus.
